Dr Nicholas Palfreyman

Prosthodontist 
BDSc (Hons), FRACDS (GDP), DCD (Pros) 

Nick graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2007 before serving in the Australian Regular Army as a Dental Officer. During this time he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2011. Nick has worked in private practice in Ballarat and Melbourne since 2012.
 
Nick believes in giving back to his profession as much as possible. He has been involved in dental education at the University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and University of Queensland. He is also regularly invited to present to his colleagues on topics of prosthodontics and dental implants. 
 
Nick is a member of several professional organisations, including the International Team for Implantology (ITI), the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Prosthodontists (AANZP), the Australian Osseointegration Society and the Australian Dental Association (ADA). He is involved in several committees including the Midwestern Group of the ADAVB and is the president of the Australian Prosthodontic Society Victorian Branch.
 
Further to his specialist training, Nick has a particular interest in crowns, bridges, dental implants, veneers, dentures, and cosmetic treatment. 
 
When he is not at the practice, Nick enjoys spending time with his family, catching the latest film, building furniture and trying to lower his golf handicap.

Dr Peter Apostolopoulos

Periodontist 
BDSc (Melb), GradDipClinDent (Implants), DCD (Perio) 

Dr Peter Apostolopoulos completed his undergraduate BDSc at the University of Melbourne in 2004. He then served as a Dental Officer in the Australian Army and Air Force at various locations around Australia, before returning to the University of Melbourne to complete postgraduate education in the GradDipClinDent (Implants) in 2010 and DCD (Periodontics) in 2015. His research thesis on Ridge Preservation has been published in the internationally renowned journal, Clinical Oral Implant Research.
 
Within periodontics, Peter is interested in the conservative non-surgical management of periodontal disease, oral hygiene education, periodontal surgery and implant surgery. He is actively involved as a clinical demonstrator in the education of dental students, oral hygienists/therapists and general dentists at the University of Melbourne and LaTrobe University. He is also a member of the Australian Dental Association, Australian Society of Periodontology, Australia & New Zealand Academy of Periodontists, and the International Team for Implantology.


 Away from the clinic, Peter enjoys hiking, travelling and reading.  As a proud local resident, you are likely to find Peter at one of Ballarat's many excellent cafes and restaurants, jogging around Lake Wendouree or in the crowd at a Sebastopol FNC match, amongst other places.  He is a keen fan and participant in many sports; also passionately supporting Manchester United football club and Collingwood football club. Peter is also fluent communicating in Greek.

Dr Theo Chan 

Dr. Theo Chan obtained his Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Melbourne in 2004. In 2005, he completed the graduate dentist program at the Goulburn Valley Health (GVH) in Shepparton. He then returned to Melbourne and worked in private practice from 2006-2012, before returning to The University of Melbourne for his endodontic specialist training. Since graduating with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics in 2015, Theo has been working at Malvern Endodontics.
 
Theo has been actively involved in teaching at the Melbourne Dental School as well as CPD courses, including lectures, tutorials, hands-on workshops and clinical supervision, for the past 10 years.
 
Outside of endodontics, Theo’s interests include reading, painting and illustration, and athletics. He is also an avid tennis player and, as a member of the Sports and Social Committee, organises the annual ADAVB Tennis Day. Being originally from Brisbane, Theo supports the Brisbane Lions, and still reminisces about their glory days of 2001-2003.

Dr Brent Woods

Brent is a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with practice locations in Melbourne and Ballarat. He holds degrees in science, medicine and dentistry and undertook surgical training within the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) then Oral & Maxillofacial surgical training within the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS).  Brent subsequently undertook further sub-specialty training in facial trauma surgery at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Brent is an AHPRA-registered medical and dental specialist.

 

Brent has trained and worked in many hospitals across Victoria and Australia gaining experience in a wide range of Oral and Maxillofacial conditions, from minor oral pathology to complex facial reconstructive surgery.

 

He is experienced in treating conditions of the head, neck, face, teeth and jaws. Brent has a special interest in corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), facial trauma and dentoalveolar surgery including extraction of impacted teeth (including wisdom teeth) and dental implants. Through his medical training, Brent is able to manage patients with complex medical conditions and can coordinate with other medical and dental specialists as necessary in such cases.

 

Brent participates in ongoing education through regular attendance at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery conferences and is a regular lecturer and demonstrator at a range of courses and education evenings.  He is a member of the RACDS (Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons), ANZAOMS (Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons), ADA (Australian Dental Association) and ITI (International Team for Implantology).

Brent is the Director of Maxillofacial Surgery at The Austin Hospital where he is involved in the training of the next generation of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and in the teaching of junior doctors within the unit.  Private practice is with Victorian Oral & Facial Surgeons in Melbourne and via Midwestern Dental Specialists in Ballarat.

Dr Michael Qiu is a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with degrees in both medicine and dentistry.

Michael grew up in New Zealand where he completed Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) with Honours at Otago University. Upon graduation, he practised dentistry in both public and private settings. He discovered his passion for maxillofacial surgery whilst working at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. He subsequently completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with Honours at Monash University.

Michael underwent specialty training in various tertiary hospitals across Australia including Westmead Hospital, Canberra Hospital and John Hunter Hospital, gaining experience in all areas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including oncology, trauma, reconstructive and microvascular surgery, dental implantology and orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery. Upon completion of his specialty training, Michael continued further sub-specialty training in Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and Orthognathic Surgery with a fellowship position at St Vincent’s Hospital.

He currently holds public appointments at Western Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital where he is involved in training the junior doctors and registrars. He privately consults in both Melbourne and Ballarat. His particular areas of interest are management of impacted teeth, dental implants, orthognathic surgery and facial trauma.

Michael is a member of the RACDS (Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons), ANZAOMS (Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons), IAOMS (International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons) and ITI (International Team for Implantology). Michael has a passion for teaching and research. He has published in multiple surgical journals, presented at international conferences, and has lectured dental students and general dentists.

Outside of surgery, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is an avid football and rugby fan. Michael is fluent in Mandarin.
